From Aleppo to Your Table: The Story Behind Iyad’s Syrian Grill
Some stories don’t start in offices or factories… They begin in kitchens, around warm meals, and inside family homes.
Iyad’s Syrian Grill didn’t start as a business plan.
It started as a dream — a small dream born in Aleppo, the heart of Syria,
and carried all the way to Vashon Island.
From Aleppo, Where Food Is Family
Aleppo is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. But beyond its history, Aleppo is known for something even more powerful: its food and hospitality.
Iyad learned cooking from his father and grandmother — standing beside them as they prepared meals not just to eat, but to bring people together. Every spice had a memory. Every dish carried a story.
Learning the Craft
Later, Iyad traveled to Turkey, where he worked in kitchens and refined his skills. He learned new techniques, experimented with flavors, and perfected the art of charcoal grilling.
“This doesn’t taste like fast food… this tastes like home.”
A New Life in America
In 2017, Iyad and Safa moved to the United States. Starting again was not easy. Different country, different language, different future.
But one thing stayed the same: their food.
